Mobile Communications - Indian Mobile Subscribers Grow in May

According to telecom regulator Trai and industry lobby groups COAI and AUSPI, the number of telecom subscribers in India stood at 102.5 million at the end of May, of which 55.38 million were cellular subscribers - both CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) as well as GSM; 47.11 million were landline subscribers. The number of mobile subscribers increased by 1.7 million and the number of landline subscribers grew by 610,000 in May. Teledensity reached 9.46 phones per 100 people in the country.

 

Airtel was the biggest mobile operator in May with 11.8 million subscribers. Reliance was second with 9.96 million subscribers and state-owned BSNL came in third with 9.87 million.
